It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. As you’ve heard me say before, Arizona is the fentanyl funnel for America. More than half of all fentanyl seized in this country comes through my state. And we've seized more than 27 million pills since I became Attorney General.
But here’s the thing: Attorney General Pam Bondi and Trump are abandoning Arizona's fight against drug cartels. After I sent a letter to Bondi requesting an additional 50 DEA agents for Arizona, she actually took 60 DEA agents OUT of Arizona.
I wrote an op-ed and went on MS NOW to tell this story:
Bondi moved these agents to places like Washington, D.C., so they could patrol Foggy Bottom, pick up trash, and run around after immigrants. That is not what we need.
We have one out of every 10 prosecutors now doing immigration enforcement when they should be going after drug cartels. Federal drug prosecutions are down 10%. CBP checkpoints along major trafficking routes are going unattended.
And meanwhile, Trump pardoned the former president of Honduras, who bragged about stuffing "drugs up the gringos' noses" after flooding 500 tons of cocaine into the U.S.
This is no laughing matter. More than 40% of Americans know someone who died from a drug overdose. Arizona is doing our part every day to fight the cartels and stop the flow of fentanyl. But we can't do this alone.
Now, I'm asking Trump and Bondi to return those agents to Arizona and do their actual jobs. We need federal law enforcement focused on actual criminals — cartel members and drug dealers — not maids and landscapers.
