Ayanna introduced the People’s Justice Guarantee back in 2019 because she understands that transforming our criminal injustice system is inextricably tied to dismantling systems of oppression and white supremacy in this country.
In the U.S., we incarcerate people at a rate higher than any other developed nation — a disproportionate amount of whom are Black and Brown folks. The mass incarceration crisis has taken a severe toll on families — an estimated 1 in 2 U.S. adults, including 2.1 million American children, have had an immediate family member spend one or more nights in jail.
Ayanna is working tirelessly to dismantle these systems, build new ones that center humanity and justice, and create fairer legal systems for everyone. She needs our support to ensure she is able to continue to do this work.
The thing is, the system isn’t “broken.” It is working exactly as it was designed — the cruelty is the point. That is why it’s essential that we dismantle and build new systems that center the well-being of our communities.
The People’s Justice Guarantee lays out a new vision for criminal justice by centering the voices of the people most impacted by injustice in America.
