Charter Reform Commission: Turn Out With DSA-LA!
|
The LA Charter Reform Commission’s Personnel and Budget subcommittee is discussing crucial police reform measures this week, and we need a massive show of support to ensure these provisions pass.
We are calling on all DSA members to participate in the public comment period tomorrow, December 16th, and this Thursday, December 18, to advocate for strong civilian oversight, accountability measures, and a shift away from police-centric solutions.
Your voice is critical! Learn how to make a public comment here, and sign up to give a public comment at the following RSVP links:
Tuesday December 16th - https://bit.ly/44reU9M
Thursday, December 18th - https://bit.ly/4qcrgei
Even a 30-second comment makes a difference. Let's make sure the Commission hears the demand for real police reform from the socialist left.

Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Then join us for DSA 101!
At this orientation, we’ll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we’re working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We’re excited to chat with you and answer your questions!

Central Branch - Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction
|
Wednesday, December 17 @ 6:30 pm
|
DSA-LA’s Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction is political education about DSA’s mass organization orientation and how it guides our organizing and politics.
We will provide a base-level understanding of how mass organizations and parties have operated and organized, and how they can serve as inspiration for us going forward. The political education focuses on the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and MORENA as examples for engaging in a broader discussion of effective models and strategies for building mass organizations and parties.
DSA-LA’s Mass Organizations and Parties Introduction is open to all and serves as a political education building block for those looking to engage in mass politics through DSA-LA.

Monday, December 22 @ 7:00 PM

DSA-LA has teamed up with the National Day Laborers Organizing Network (NDLON) to adopt day laborer and street vendor locations to be on the lookout for ICE attacks. We have adopted five Home Depot locations across the city and have been patrolling for the last couple months. Come volunteer to help us stop ICE and protect our communities.
This training is to go over what you need to do in order to volunteer. We’ll cover the rapid response network, logistics, roles, safety, how to record ICE activity, and best practices.
