Winter has arrived in Ukraine — and with it, daily blackouts and temperatures already below freezing.

For 60-year-old Iryna , displaced from Donetsk, the winter brought a desperate question: "Where should we go, who can we turn to get at least some support?"

Iryna is just one of millions of older Ukrainian women with mounting needs — nearly 88% of households with an older adult report health challenges and financial insecurity as critical concerns.

But Iryna's life began to turn around when she met a UNFPA mobile team distributing Winter Dignity Kits with warm clothing and winter supplies.

Once in a vulnerable and desperate state, Iryna rediscovered her confidence and strength. She now works at a support center, helping other women access resources like psychosocial counseling and skills training.

Iryna’s story offers hope, but it also highlights the vast unmet needs of Ukraine’s older population. As the war continues, UNFPA is committed to making the safety and dignity of older women a priority.
