It was outrageous when President Trump — on his first day back in office — pardoned more than 1,500 insurrectionists who violently attacked law enforcement at our nation’s Capitol.
And he didn’t stop there.
Since then, the President has handed out pardons to drug kingpins, a money-laundering crypto magnate, and other well-connected offenders. It’s as if clemency has become a favor for the wealthy and powerful — granted not in the interest of justice, but because he can.
It’s indecent. It’s undemocratic. And I’ve had enough.
I believe in the rule of law and our system of checks and balances. That’s why I’m introducing a constitutional amendment to restore accountability, giving Congress the authority to overturn the most egregious and brazen abuses of the presidential pardon power.
