We are the staff of Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), and we see the realities journalists face across this country every day. Reporters come to us after being detained at protests. Newsrooms reach out when their sources are in danger. Whistleblowers ask how they can reveal the truth without risking their lives or livelihoods. We meet them with training, tools, legal support, and a commitment to protect the right to report.

This year alone, we have trained thousands of journalists in digital safety, documented hundreds of press freedom violations, filed Freedom of Information Act requests and lawsuits to challenge government secrecy, and supported dozens of newsrooms that rely on SecureDrop to communicate safely with sources.

We carry out this work because press freedom in the United States is under real and sustained threat.
