The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) reportedly allowed more than 8 million riders to evade fares. Fare evasion cost MCTS more than $10 million, almost its total operating deficit.
This is wrong and harms the taxpayers helping fund this system. It is also fundamentally unfair to the hardworking families who use the system, follow the rules, and pay their fair share.
MCTS receives roughly $57 million in federal funding annually. We need federal oversight to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used appropriately.
