But in this climate of fear, her profession and her character didn't matter. She told us, through tears, about the moment her 8-year-old child looked at her and asked: "Mommy, are you a criminal?"

That is the devastation of the anti-immigrant rhetoric pouring out of Washington. It seeps into our homes. It poisons the minds of children. It makes an 8-year-old believe that their mother might be the enemy.
