John – Rural schools are already stretched thin, and without immediate action, the situation will get much worse. That’s why Marie has been unrelentingly fighting for solutions and calling attention to this critical issue.
Last week, Marie's bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program passed the House – a long overdue win for rural communities in Southwest Washington and nationwide.
Let's recognize this hard-earned progress and prove that a majority of Americans support investments in the equality of our children’s opportunities, making sure rural schools aren’t left behind. If you agree that where your kids live shouldn’t determine the quality of education they receive, add your name here:
A decline in federal funding has already forced school districts in rural Southwest Washington to combine schools and lay off staff – and if they lose funding entirely, it would mean further layoffs, inability to repair aging facilities, and even cutting down to a four-day school week.
It's past time to reauthorize the federal funding program upon which these schools rely, and now Marie's hard work to bring those dollars home is paying off.
Our children deserve access to an education that provides opportunities and helps prepare for their futures, regardless of zip code. If you agree, add your name here:
Thanks for taking a stand.
