It’s pretty shocking. In the UK, household debt is at a record high and 1 in 5 children are living in poverty. [1] If a chaotic Brexit pushes us into another re
cession, we're in even worse shape than 2008 to handle it. We can't afford to let politicans make exactly the same mistakes they did ten years ago.
Fortunately, party conferences are just around the corner. In a few weeks, thousands of current and future political leaders will meet in Brighton and Manchester to share the ideas that will shape the next year. They’re looking for solutions to our biggest problems and Positive Money’s got them.
To put on Positive Money events at both conferences, we need to raise £5000 asap. We’ve already started scoping out venues - they get booked up really fast because dozens of other think tanks and campaign groups want to be there too.And we’ve already secured some sponsorship from Triodos Bank.
But we still need to raise over £1000. John if everyone reading this email gave £3 we’d reach this goal in just a few hours. Please will you chip in now to make sure Positive Money's there?
Party conferences are some of the biggest events in the political calendar. They’re unique opportunities to share our ideas with a big and powerful audience. To cut through the noise of tabloid headlines and deep dive into thorny issues.
And sadly there are more problems to tackle in money and banking than ever before. A ruthless programme of ATM and branch closures mean thousands are financially stranded. Climate change and inequality are raging rampant, Facebook’s new Libra currency is a new threat and recruitment of the next Bank of England Governor is shrouded in secrecy.
Positive Money is the people-powered organisation making the case for money and banking reform as key to solving these issues. If we're not there, both parti
es risk getting away with burying their heads in the sand and ignoring these huge problems for another year.
John please will you donate today and help us make the case for financial reform loud and clear at this year's party conferences?
Hannah, Rachel, Fran and the rest of the Positive Money Team
PS: In 2017 we had 100s of people attend our conference events and visit our stall.
At our Labour conference events, we strengthened our relationship with the party leadership, which translated into more support for our proposals earlier this year! [2]
