This is a bit of a longer email, but I hope you’ll give me just 30 seconds to explain. 🙏 What I’m about to share says everything about what’s broken in our politics, and how we can fix it together.
You may have seen this story:
An 88-year-old veteran had to rely on a viral GoFundMe to survive the medical debt our system dumped on him. After reading that, the only thing that came to mind was what I posted: Medical debt is evil.
It is a uniquely American cruelty — the idea that you should have to win the lottery to pay for healthcare, or hope your hardship becomes “viral” enough that strangers will help relieve you of the financial burden.
This should not be happening in the richest, most powerful country in the world. But it is, and here’s why:
The reason this keeps happening is both corporate Democrats and Republicans have accepted millions from Big Pharma and health insurance lobbyists, the very industries that profit from medical debt. They defend this broken system because the system funds their campaigns.
You saw the GoFundMe. I saw the GoFundMe. Pharma CEOs saw it, and so did the politicians who take their checks.
And yet nothing changes.
Because in Washington, stories like this aren’t treated as evidence of a broken system. They’re treated as background noise — the cost of doing business in a political order built to protect corporate profits above all else.
That’s the corrupt status quo we’re running to upend.
John, I’m the only candidate in this race who supports Medicare for All.
And once I’m elected, I’ll be the first non-MAGA doctor in the U.S. Senate — someone who actually understands how our healthcare system works and how to fix it.
But the pharmaceutical industry won’t back down without a fight. You can bet they’ll spend whatever it takes to prop up candidates who are most loyal to protecting their profit margins.
That means whether we win this fight comes down to people like you.
Later this month, we’re facing our last Federal Election Commission (FEC) fundraising deadline of the year. Everything we’ve raised this past quarter will be made public for pundits, our opponents, and everyone to see.
This is our moment to show the old guard politicians and Big Pharma that the energy in this race is with the candidate who will actually deliver Medicare for All, not protect the status quo.
