Dear John,

I’m so grateful for the way local churches are caring for those in prison and their families. The holidays can be such a lonely time, even for people who are fortunate enough to receive prison visits. Incarcerated men and women are desperately searching for the hope that Jesus brings—the hope we all need in this broken world.

In these weeks leading up to Christmas, local churches partner with the Church inside prison to celebrate the birth of Jesus at

Prison Fellowship Hope Events . There’s truly nothing like the experience of encountering our Savior together in prison, as people raise their hands and worship side by side in one united voice. These genuine encounters with Jesus lead to real and lasting transformation on a prison yard.

I’m reminded of Steven, an incarcerated man we met at a Hope Event in San Quentin prison. Steven believed in God before going to prison, but he didn’t consider himself a man of faith. Something changed when he tried a Bible study behind bars, and caring volunteers and chaplains walked alongside him.

In studying God’s Word, Steven came face to face with Jesus.
It just brought life to my spirit, and it spoke to me. Now I’m the polar opposite of who I used to be.

—Steven

At the Hope Event in San Quentin, Steven shared:
Prison Fellowship visited us in such a dark place and shared that hope with us. That’s what God’s love looks like.

Every incarcerated man and woman was created by God and is precious in His sight. Every time I visit prison, I see so many authentic examples of redemption. I am grateful for the chance to experience the transforming power of Christ alongside those behind bars this Christmas season!

By joining in Prison Fellowship’s work, you can be a blessing to someone like Steven! You will hear more about his story in the coming months. And if you don't already receive our weekly stories, you can
