The federal government is providing the names of all air travelers to immigration authorities, reports Hamed Aleaziz of The New York Times [link removed].
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provides air passenger lists to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) multiple times per week. It remains unclear how many arrests have occurred with this information.
Historically, ICE has avoided interfering with domestic travel, Aleaziz reports.
Elsewhere, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) is expressing concern about the pending end of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and the effects on Springfield, Ohio, reports Anna Staver of Cleveland.com [link removed]. DeWine repeatedly has cited Haitians’ strengthening of Springfield’s economy, Staver notes.
Casey Rollins is helping Haitian families prepare for the worst-case scenario as she starts to see the children of Haitian immigrants left in the U.S. without their parents, reports Amanda Becker of The 19th News [link removed].
As executive director of Springfield’s St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic charity, Rollins has become an advocate for Haitian families in her community. These efforts include getting U.S. citizen children passports and making sure they have a legal guardian should their parents be deported.
"I believe in people who believe in people," Rollins said while describing the number of community members and groups who are "transcending their politics" to assist these parents and children.
More broadly, deportations of parents with U.S. citizen children are leaving teenagers to care for younger siblings, report Jack Brook and Sara Cline of the Associated Press [link removed].
