I hope everyone will visit it and use them in their advocacy and activism for animals. It’s a treasury of terrific info!” – Mary Finelli, founder of Fish Feel “Karen Davis was a true friend for animals and winged animals. Please keep going – your work is needed. The world needs more people like you!” – Steve Kouzounas “I just want to thank all those working hard to carry on the mission of Karen Davis life’s work. And, I appreciate the educational material you are sending out that shines a light on animal welfare situations that get very little, if any, public attention. So again, kudos to UPC staff members and volunteers.” – Wandis Wilcox, proud UPC member Peepers United Poultry Concerns educates people not only about the suffering and abuse of chickens, but also about the sweetness, vibrancy, pride, and joy of chickens — and our love for them. We’re grateful to be able to bring comfort and joy to the many chickens who come to our sanctuary, often rescued from a life of fear and abuse. This year, we adopted nine hens and six roosters into our sanctuary. In April, we adopted two wonderful roosters from Howard County Animal Control & Adoption Center in Columbia, Maryland, and drove them to our sanctuary. They were previously named Benedict Cumberhatch and Pecky Blinders by the workers at the shelter. After observing them for a while, we decided to rename the black-and-gold rooster Peepers and the red rooster, featured on the holiday card, Benedict. Our hens have been very welcoming to these handsome and vibrant roosters. Benedict was very confident from the beginning. Peepers was a bit shy at first, but is coming along very nicely! They were among five roosters who were surrendered by a woman who thought she was buying eight hens from a local farmer, but five of the eight turned out to be roosters. It is wonderful to see them strutting around our predator-proof outdoor aviary and mingling with our chickens and peahen in the yard. This is our 35th year since Karen Davis founded UPC in October 1990. Here are a few highlights from 2025: Las Vegas We asked our members to urge the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee to hold a vote on the bill banning live pigeon shoots. We ran our beautiful “What Wings Are For!” ads on a truck in Washington, DC and on 45 Los Angeles–area bus shelters to celebrate International Respect for Chickens Day/Month. In November, we ran our “Don’t Gobble Me!” ads on a truck in Washington, DC and on 50 bus shelters in Las Vegas. This year, our dedicated NYC Kaporos rescue team was able to rescue, triage, rehab, foster, and transport 202 chickens. We contributed copies of A Home for Henny by Karen Davis as a part of The Hatching Kindness Project with Shy 38 Inc. and Animalearn. We created a new handout, Ask Restaurants to Switch to Vegan Faux Gras, which exposes the cruelty behind foie gras and offers a vegan faux gras recipe as a solution. This handout is great for leafleting in front of restaurants that serve foie gras or for simply sharing with your local chef. With your caring and generous support, we will continue the important work of advocating for chickens, turkeys, ducks and other domestic fowl in 2026 and beyond.
