The Just Economy Labs will bring NCRC members and other community leaders together in small groups based on the priority themes identified during NCRC’s2025 Leadership Summitheld in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The conversations in Nashville showed what’s possible when our network comes together,” said NCRC Director of the National Training Academy Jacelyn Matthews. “The Just Economy Labs keep that energy moving, giving us a place to learn from each other and build the solutions our communities deserve.”

The nominations are open for the first of these Just Economy Labs, focused on how shared equity through community and employee ownership models can turn businesses into sources of community wealth. Over the next 18 months participants in this lab will:
Explore specific opportunities for the economic development, CDFI, and entrepreneurship support fields to increase their ability to serve this segment of the small business market;
Identify programmatic and policy interventions that could meaningfully increase the number of shared equity businesses supporting community wealth;
Develop tools and resources, such as practical resource guides, policy briefs, models and other materials that everyone across the network can use to advance a more just economy at the state and local levels.
