Great news out of Texas: turnout in the Democratic runoff elections SHATTERED previous records, more than doubling the votes cast in 2018’s runoff election.
It’s incredibly encouraging news that makes it all more possible that Texas flips blue in November, a historic repudiation of Donald Trump and Republican leadership.
What’s less encouraging is the fact that an untold number of Texas voters never received their mail-in ballots, even after submitting applications on time. When you combine that with reports of poll workers leaving their stations because of the health guidelines violations they witnessed (including Republican poll workers not wearing masks), it’s enough to make anyone worried about the election in November.
There’s still time for Congress to take steps to protect the vote in November. But if we miss our shot to safeguard the election, all the Democratic enthusiasm we’ve seen so far could be for nothing. We’re rooting for a blue wave, but know that won’t happen without ballot security -- so we’re asking engaged voters now:
