One my heroes, Frances Perkins, was the first woman cabinet member under FDR. She was the longest-serving Labor Secretary. And when she invented Social Security, it was an entirely new program unlike anything anyone had ever seen.

There was a time when Democrats used to dream big in this country. There was a time when our representatives used to think about the kind of better future they wanted to get us to. And then they actually fought and expended their political will and capital to get us there.

If I am any kind of Democrat, I am a New Deal Democrat.

But it is important to remember that what we got out of the New Deal did not just come because those in power wanted it to happen. We did not get an 8-hour workday or a 40-hour workweek because someone wrote a strongly worded letter. It happened because everyday people organized at the ground level and pushed up – hard.

That is the kind of movement politics we are building in the state of Maine. Ours is not just a campaign to defeat Susan Collins (although we are going to do that). We are building power to fight for big things – real things – like passing Medicare for All, ending taxpayer-funded genocide, taking on the oligarchy, and protecting our democracy from the fascists and the masked agents running our streets and our halls of government.

I served four infantry tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I know an enemy to America when I see one. But I am not taking money from corporate PACs, and I am not taking money from special interest groups like AIPAC.

Real change starts by defeating Susan Collins in 2026, and I am counting entirely on folks like you to fund and fuel our campaign if we’re going to do it.
