First: Missouri Republicans rammed through a gerrymandered map with the intention of handing Donald Trump an additional Republican seat in the House.

Then: Missouri voters fought back immediately, gathering signatures for a ballot initiative rejecting the gerrymandered map.

Now: Extreme map manipulators — including people in Trump’s inner circle — are running scared that Missouri voters will reject this map, and so they’re pouring millions of dollars into a campaign to stop them.

John, we’ll put it plainly: This is a fight we simply have to win. If Missouri voters reject this map, it will send a resounding message that voters reject the extreme, partisan gerrymandering we’re seeing sweep across this country.

Now we can see how far Republicans are willing to go to silence the will of the people. Lawmakers forced through this gerrymander despite massive outrage from Missouri voters, who flooded Governor Mike Kehoe’s office with calls opposing the gerrymander and protested across the state.

And now, powerful, Trump-aligned interests are sparing no expense to defeat a voter-led effort to overturn this gerrymander.

But here’s the good news: This infusion of money shows that they know this gerrymander is deeply unpopular. And if Missourians vote it down, it would be a massive victory for the fair maps movement — not to mention, send a message to other states seeking to rig maps for the president.
