ACTION ALERT

We, at EMET, are outraged.

As we awoke this morning, we learned the horrific news.

Eleven people were murdered, dozens more were injured. They had gathered for a joyous celebration in Bondi Beach, Australia, of the first night of Chanukah.

We have learned that these people were murdered for one reason, and for one reason alone: They were Jews.

Throughout the world, we have watched this horrible toxin of antisemitism has metastasized. In Australia, the attacks have intensified dramatically, with 1,654 attacks from September 2024 to September 2025 alone.

Synagogues have been fired bombed. People gathering to eat shabbat meals together have been targeted. Antisemitic graffiti has proliferated.

Every person of good conscience throughout the world is in mourning.

The pain and fear experienced are not isolated—they resonate deeply with anyone who values human dignity and justice

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the persistent dangers faced by Jewish communities worldwide. The senseless violence underscores the urgent need for solidarity and action against hate in all its forms. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this devastating event.

Chanukah is a holiday that celebrates Jewish solidarity, Jewish identity, Jewish dignity, and Jewish survival in the face of relentless vilification, forced cultural assimilation, and the attempted erasure of our people, throughout the generations.

And it is now, of all times, that we must cling to our Jewish identities firmly, and reaffirm our commitment to stand together against hatred and intolerance. The values embodied in this festival inspire us to persevere, to protect one another, and to ensure that such acts of violence never deter our spirit or our unity.

And now, of all times, is the time to call your congressman at (202) 225-3121 and senators at (202) 224-3121 and demand that they pass The Antisemitism Awareness Act. HR 1007 in the House and S 558 in the Senate.
