FEMA
publishes strategy on mitigating natural disasters
The Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) earlier this month released the National Mitigation Investment
Strategy (NMIS). FEMA describes it as “a single national strategy for advancing
mitigation investment to reduce risks posed by natural hazards (for example, sea
level rise, droughts, floods, hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, earthquakes) and
increasing the nation’s resilience to natural hazards.”

Home Sales see sharp fall in July
July’s new home sales (635,000
units) saw a 12.8 percent decline after a large upward revision to estimated June
sales (728,000 units). The market has been volatile recently due to the countervailing
effects of declining mortgage rates and increasing economic uncertainty.
