Leading an Ag
Roundtable with USDA Under Secretary and Montana Ag
Leaders
What's
New:
Last week, I led a roundtable
discussion with USDA Under Secretary Bill Northey and Montana’s
ag leaders on issues critical to Montana ag.
Before the roundtable, Under Secretary Northey and I had
the opportunity to tour Ag Trucks and Equipment, a custom farm
application equipment manufacturer located in Great Falls. Ag Trucks and
Equipment’s business operations were kept going because of the help
they received through the Paycheck Protection Program
(PPP).

At the roundtable, I expressed support for ongoing assistance to
Montana farmers and ranchers impacted by COVID-19 and urged USDA and
the Department of Justice to actively coordinate efforts between the
two agencies in the ongoing investigations into allegations of market
manipulation by meat packers in the cattle industry.

Why
It Matters:
Montana farmers and ranchers have faced tremendous new
challenges because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That's why I
brought USDA Under Secretary Northey to Montana to hear directly from our
farmers and ranchers on the issues impacting our ag communities and
what resources are available through USDA.
What's Next:
I am committed to fighting to ensure that Montana farmers and
ranchers have the resources they need to keep their ag operations going
during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To read more about my COVID-19
related efforts, click HERE.
