The DC budget vote is TOMORROW and it includes critical funding for gun
violence interventions

John,
Washington, DC is dealing with a gun violence crisis—the District has the
highest rate of gun homicide in the country, nearly three times the
national rate.
Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the
District. And while Black residents account for 46 percent of DC's
population, they account for approximately 96 percent of the city's gun
homicide victims. We need to adopt a Vision Zero for gun violence
prevention in DC. And violence intervention and interruption programs have
been proven to drastically reduce gun violence.
These programs have faced budgetary cuts in the past, but now DC leaders
have the opportunity to make our city safer from gun violence. The new
budget proposal has not only restored funding for violence intervention
programs, it has added an additional $500,000 for this work.
We need to protect our community from gun violence, so we're asking you to
take action with us: [ [link removed] ]Send a message to Mayor Bowser and the City
Council to prioritize gun safety and vote YES on the city budget tomorrow.
