Happy Sunday. You might be watching the Lions today, heading to services, or maybe you’re heading out for what’s become an increasingly expensive weekly ritual: grocery shopping.
If you’re anything like me – or the Michiganders I talk to every day – you’ve noticed that grocery prices are out of control. The total at the register can feel more like a car payment than a few bags of bread, eggs, and bananas.
Let’s be honest: Grocery prices are too damn high.
And while there are a lot of reasons behind rising costs, what’s one of the biggest? Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs.
Folks, Trump’s agenda isn’t full of targeted, thoughtful policies. These tariffs are shoot-from-the-hip, change-by-the-minute, politics-first decisions that hurt real people and raise prices on everything from apples to eggs to coffee.
Over the last few months, I’ve crisscrossed Michigan – from senior centers in the U.P. to union halls in Detroit – and I hear the same thing everywhere: Folks are feeling squeezed, and no one in Washington is doing anything to help.
So I decided to do something.
I introduced the No Tariffs on Groceries Act, a bill that stops presidents from unilaterally slapping tariffs on food and agricultural products without approval from Congress.
This bill is simple: If a president wants to hike prices on your groceries, they should have to explain it to Congress – and get a vote.
No more impulsive moves that reward political donors and punish working families. No more backroom deals that make your weekly grocery trip even more expensive. Just transparency, accountability, and a focus on lowering costs.
Because here’s the reality: Trump’s tariffs and reckless policies have raised prices on food staples that Michigan families rely on:
🥩 Beef is up 16.6%
🍳 Eggs are up 10.9%
📈 Coffee, apples, bananas, bacon – all up.
That’s what a chaotic trade policy looks like in real life.
I’m fighting back with the No Tariffs on Groceries Act because people deserve better. They deserve leaders who show up, listen, and deliver.
That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate – because Michigan families deserve someone who won’t just talk about lowering costs, but will actually do something about it.
If you’re feeling the squeeze at the grocery store, please know: you’re not alone. I’m in this fight for you.
And if you’re in a position to chip in a few dollars to support this grassroots campaign — and our fight to make life more affordable — I’d be incredibly grateful. Every dollar helps us reach voters, fight back, and keep Michigan blue.
With grit and gratitude,
Haley
A personal note from Haley 👋
I’m a lifelong Michigander and the daughter of small-business owners. I’ve spent my career fighting for Michigan’s working families – and now I’m running for the U.S. Senate to keep standing up for the people I love.
But here’s the truth: Senate control could come down to Michigan. And Trump and his megadonors know it. That’s why they’re gearing up to spend tens of millions to defeat me and hand this seat to a MAGA Republican.
I need your help to fight back. This race will be one of the most competitive – and expensive – in the country, and I’m counting on grassroots support to win.
If you’re with me, will you chip in today?
