Team Stitt,
Under Governor Stitt’s leadership, Oklahoma is not only Top Ten in the nation for the lowest unemployment rate during the pandemic – we are Top FIVE!
New figures released today by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and the U.S. Department of Labor show Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 6.6% in June, a significant decrease from 12.6% in May.
Governor Stitt boldly and safely began reopening Oklahoma for business during the first week of May, and it is paying off! Not only that, but the Governor committed $100 million in critical CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds to help Oklahoma-owned small businesses retool and reopen. These small grants are currently being deployed to more than 4,000 local businesses across the state.
“These figures confirm that Oklahoma is leading the way in our recovery from COVID-19,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “Innovative programs like the Oklahoma Business Relief Program, the Oklahoma Manufacturing Reboot Program and others have allowed us to leverage federal CARES Act funds to support our businesses and get their employees back to work so they can support their families.”
Meanwhile, states ruled by liberal policies like New York, California and Illinois battle unemployment rates as high as 15%.
When it comes to COVID-19, Oklahoma continues to be ranked in the Bottom Ten (#40) for the number of positive COVID cases per 100,000, even as testing accessibility and capacity grows.
You may have heard that our Governor tested positive for COVID-19 nearly a week ago. Aside from one day of fatigue, he has had no other symptoms! He appeared on FOX News this weekend to talk about how he is feeling and also about how Oklahoma has weathered the pandemic and the nation’s high unemployment rates. Don’t miss it!
Oklahomans – we are in this together! The Governor has challenged us to keep our spirits positive; to rally in support of our communities by following the latest public health guidance; and to innovate and reopen businesses so Oklahomans can get back to work rebuilding our economy better than it has ever been.
Sincerely,
Team Stitt
