John, We are both devastated and angered by the shooting at Brown University in Providence today. At the time of writing, two people have been killed and eight others are reported critically injured. Families are living every parent’s worst nightmare right now, and an entire community is being forced into fear and uncertainty. No one should have to worry about gunfire while going to class, work, or walking around a campus. And yet, once again, a community is grieving and searching for answers in the wake of preventable violence. Tonight, we’re holding the community close to our hearts. If you’re in the area, please follow instructions from local officials and campus authorities and avoid the scene. We will keep pushing for the proven steps that prevent gun violence and reduce harm. May our collective heartbreak sharpen into focused advocacy.
