Dear VCC Community,
This week Children’s Health Defense announced what they described as a “huge” legal win in the US Supreme Court. The win appears to have secured the right to religious exemptions in the state of New York with implications for all 50 states. While we applaud their win, there is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed.
Ethical medicine and individual rights is based on the principles of informed consent and bodily sovereignty. We have the right to decide what goes into our bodies and our children's bodies, and the right to decide for ourselves whether to undergo any medical procedure. This is a God given right, not a privilege bestowed upon us by a benevolent state.
Jeremy Hammond responded to the announcement with the following:
“It is our right to decline vaccinations, not a government-granted privilege. The whole idea of an "exemption" from a statutory requirement to vaccinate is a perversion of law, not to mention medical ethics. Our rights as parents to make health and education choices for our own children are absolute. And these are rights not government-allowed privileges.”
Hammond then addresses the bigger issue:
“Tactical wins can be strategic losses. That is the risk of "working within the system to change the system" and trying to fight government tyranny in the government's own court system. In fact, we ought to stop even calling it a "government" as though we had a constitutional government. It's a criminal organization that couldn't care less about what the Constitution says and that we ought not be legitimizing. I'm not saying these types of efforts shouldn't occur, just that the bigger picture must be kept in mind, and any legal strategy ought to account for the risk posed by conceding authority and effectively consenting to certain abuses as a defense against others.”
I agree with Hammond. We need to keep individual rights and bodily sovereignty front and center. I suggest that every action, every article, every legal effort addressing vaccine exemptions include a paragraph that calls out vaccine mandates as a violation of the fundamentals of a free society and that exemptions are only necessary because we have an unethical and illegal medical system. Celebrating the securing of exemptions alone ignores and is effectively complicit in the violation of fundamental rights. Exemptions are like having the handcuffs removed but still being in jail.
Currently, two provinces in Canada are in violation of individual rights and bodily sovereignty – Ontario and New Brunswick, with BC egregiously violating the right and responsibility of parents to make medical decisions for their children. We cannot stop until all vaccines mandates are removed and those violating informed consent, bodily sovereignty and the right and responsibility of parents to make medical decisions for their children are held accountable, be they doctors, politicians, or judges.
