Dear Friend,
Good Monday morning!
I am excited to offer you the first look at Quincy Institute’s report on why and how the U.S. must end its misguided quest for dominance in the Middle East. We are releasing the report later today.
The paper puts forward an approach that breaks with the military-heavy policies of the past three decades, which have left the region more unstable, ravaged by more extremism, and with more failed or failing states.
The authors -- retired U.S. intelligence officer and QI Non-Resident Fellow Paul Pillar, QI President Andrew Bacevich, QI Research Fellow for the Middle East Annelle Sheline and Executive Vice President Trita Parsi -- call for the development of a holistic regional framework that re-evaluates all bilateral relationships against promotion of core U.S. interests and the benefit of the peoples of the region.
You can read the full report here. Take a look as well at our new video which takes on the pressing question that spurred this report: For all the efforts the United States has made to shape the Middle East, why is the region still in chaos?
