I’ve said it before: Just because young people swung toward Donald Trump in 2024 does not mean that they’re a lost cause or Democrats can’t win them back.
Young voters weren’t satisfied with their choices in the last election. Now they are making it clear they don’t approve of the wannabe dictator in the White House.
Democrats CAN win young people back. But we need the right message — and the right messengers. And that’s one big reason why Leaders We Deserve exists.
We’re empowering the next generation of Democrats who are ready to meet the moment — young leaders unafraid of challenging the establishment and fighting on behalf of the constituents they serve. The reason why things in our party feel like they rarely change is because they rarely do. That’s what happens when you spend the better part of a decade talking about how we have a “messaging problem” instead of addressing the messenger problem. Young voters are looking for a clear answer on who can most quickly make their lives easier. We have to show them exactly how we plan to do that and that we aren’t just changing what we say but we are changing who we are as a party to offer them something new.
We simply cannot do that by changing what we say while keeping the same out of touch messengers who voters don’t believe anymore.
That’s why we do this work. It’s not because it’s easy or makes us many friends on the Hill. It’s because oftentimes the thing that needs to be done is that last thing many people in the establishment want. We have made the decision to do not what is popular with the establishment but what we truly believe is required to win back a generation and show Americans of all ages how our party is changing who we are to represent the people's interest, not special interests.
