This week, the Senate confirmed three more of Trump’s extreme judicial
nominees. All of them are conservative white men, and all of them bring
records that raise serious concerns for anyone who believes in equal
justice and a fair legal system. These confirmations show how quickly the
Republican-led Senate is willing to approve nominees who fall short of the
standards our federal courts require.

Take a closer look at the judges who were pushed through: Robert
Chamberlin from Mississippi has a long record of undermining reproductive
freedom, LGBTQ+ equality, and voting rights. William Crain in Louisiana
has let personal ideology shape his judicial decisions, including his
personal opposition to abortion. James Maxwell refused to use appropriate
language for a transgender teenager in a judicial opinion he wrote ruling
against him, which raises real questions about his ability to treat people
with dignity and fairness when they come before him.

Not one of these nominees would acknowledge that Joe Biden won the 2020
election. Not one would reject claims that Democrats are evil. These are
fundamental questions about truth and respect for the people they would
serve. They should not be optional for anyone seeking a lifetime
appointment.

commitment to democratic principles and equal justice. >>

Even with this week’s confirmations, more extreme nominees are waiting in
line. A particularly bad nominee from Texas – a former staffer for Ted
Cruz – just cleared the committee this week and could get a vote before
year’s end. And the committee is considering other nominees with terrible
records on LGBTQ+ equality and abortion rights. If the Senate continues
approving judges with records like these, Trump will secure even more
lifetime seats this year, and our courts will grow more hostile to the
rights of everyday people.

This is the moment to make clear that the public is paying attention.
Senators need to hear that these confirmations do not reflect our values
and that the next slate cannot be confirmed.
