John,
Last month, the Israeli government tore down over 30 olive trees at my grandparents’ home in the West Bank. As a child, I sat under those sacred trees and picked olives while listening to my family’s stories about life in Palestine.
Israel’s military is escalating their campaign of apartheid and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank—destroying people’s homes and infrastructure while attacking and killing Palestinians.
Meanwhile, they’re continuing to commit war crimes and genocide in Gaza. Since the fake ceasefire was announced, Israel’s government has continued murdering hundreds of Palestinians there, blocking essential food and aid, and destroying thousands of buildings.
My recent bill to recognize the Gaza genocide calls for the U.S. to stop funding and arming these atrocities, and to ensure Israel’s government complies with orders from the world’s top court—including stopping genocidal acts and ending its illegal occupation of Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
Please add your name now to join the call: Our government must uphold international law by enacting an arms embargo and pushing Israel to follow the International Court of Justice’s demands, such as immediately withdrawing from Gaza and the West Bank.
This past week, I voted against a nearly $1 trillion National Defense Authorization Act that continues to fund war crimes while enriching war profiteers. Imagine if our government funded our communities like it funds our government’s addiction to war.
Our government is the largest funder of the Israeli military, providing billions of dollars in weapons each year.
As Israel’s government is solidifying its occupation of Gaza, it’s shrinking Gaza in half and claiming part of it for Israel, while shooting children who accidentally cross this made-up line.
Government leaders are openly planning to force Gaza’s residents into a small area that they could never leave. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has called this plan “ethnic cleansing,” referring to the proposed area as a “concentration camp.”1
All of this is against the law. And last year, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must ensure Palestinians’ right to return and self-determination, and end its unlawful apartheid and occupation—by paying reparations, facilitating Palestinians’ return, and withdrawing from Gaza and the rest of Palestine (including illegal settlements) “as rapidly as possible.”
Human rights organizations like Amnesty International have condemned how Israel’s government has “failed to take even the bare minimum steps to comply” with these orders. The law is clear, and our government has an obligation to uphold it.
Please sign the petition today to demand the U.S. government stop arming the genocidal Israeli regime—and instead hold it accountable.
Thank you. Together, we’ll continue pushing for Palestinians’ rights and liberation. We’ll keep growing our movement for human rights for all people.
With you in the fight for better,
Rashida
