Friend,

This year, NPP led the way in civic education around the state judiciary through Why Courts Matter civic engagement.

NPP’s CEO, Kadida Kenner, set out to literally meet Pennsylvanians where they are across the Commonwealth and engaged in a four-month-long civic education roadshow. This included hosting presentations, webinars, townhalls, candidate forums, and community conversations that left attendees with a better understanding of our state judiciary and how court decisions impact their everyday lives.

These presentations covered:How Pennsylvania’s state courts functionWhy state courts—and the judges and justices we elect—shape our daily livesExamples of cases heard at the appellate level and their real-world impactHistorical efforts to influence or weaken the independence of the PA Supreme Court
The unique power Pennsylvania voters hold as one of only seven states that elects every judge and justice in partisan elections
And it paid off. Voter turnout across Pennsylvania judicial elections was remarkable! Statewide turnout was about 41% and early turnout numbers show many of our focused regions with considerable increases compared to previous similar elections.

In 2026, we will continue this important judicial civic education with an overall goal to increase voter participation over the next few years and civic awareness regarding the state courts.

This work will help voters connect the dots between the importance of voting in the 2026 midterm elections and their key issues, from environmental justice to reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, and more. With Governor, Lt. Governor, the US House, PA’s ENTIRE State House, and half of our State Senate on the ballot next November, this could not be more important.

There is no such thing as an off-year in Pennsylvania. Will you help support NPP as we continue our year-round voter engagement and civic education by pitching in $25 or more today?

Donations to the New Pennsylvania Project supports our staff’s community engagement efforts including; organizing and hosting town halls, educational webinars, community conversations, and creating digital content, bi-weekly blasts and social media to reach the communities we engage year-round.

The New Pennsylvania Project (NPP) is a voting rights organization with a year-round primary focus on voter registration, civic education, and mobilization. NPP centers historically disenfranchised and often neglected Black, Indigenous and other people of color, immigrant communities and the youth in our work. Through civic engagement, we ensure all eligible voters feel compelled to exercise their freedom to vote in the Commonwealth.
