Pray for Rest |
|
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” |

Every morning, Lakshmi wakes up to an unobstructed view of the vast eastern sky as the first rays of sunshine brighten her home. As a single mother, she works hard every day to provide for her two children. Her days are not easy. But she rests soundly at night knowing her family is safe. Because they are free.
For years, Lakshmi was forced to break rocks in a dangerous quarry. She endured physical and verbal abuse and worked long hours without pay. But IJM worked closely with local government authorities and partners to rescue Lakshmi and the others enslaved at the quarry.
In freedom, Lakshmi has begun to heal. She has turned her modest makeshift hut into a place of safety and rest for her family and finds peace in simple things like planting colorful roses near her front porch.
“Now I’m very peaceful,” says Lakshmi. “We are at our home. No one questions us. No one interferes. Our life is ours.”
