Town Hall Recap

Wednesday's telephone town hall was a big success, and I appreciate each of you who tuned in and asked questions.

I gave a legislative recap on my work for you in Washington, as well as updates from agricultural leaders and experts.

A big thank you to our special guests, Stephen Diebel with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Justin Dreibelbis with Texas Wildlife Association, Warren Cude with Texas Farm Bureau, and Susan Storey Rubio with The Origins Foundation, for joining us on Wednesday.

I work for YOU in Congress, and I take your insights, ideas, and questions seriously. I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Homeland Security Hearing

On Thursday, during the House Committee on Homeland Security hearing, I questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem on current Coast Guard operations in Venezuela.

Secretary Noem gave insightful information on DHS's work combatting drug trafficking and protecting Americans.

I also took the time to thank the many DHS personnel across the agency who work day and night to protect critical infrastructure, and most importantly, our homeland.

Delivering a Defense Package

On Wednesday, I voted in the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a must-pass, yearly policy package that outlines defense priorities and spending.

Military readiness and servicemembers' quality of life go hand in hand. That's why I helped secure funding for infrastructure in San Antonio to improve military readiness.

I also worked to mandate a raise in Family Separation Allowance pay for our troops separated from their families due to their duty station.

As a 20-year Navy veteran, taking care of the brave men and women who answered the call of duty is my top priority. I am grateful that soon this important legislation will be on the way to President Trump's desk.

Combatting Veterans' Suicide

Recently, alongside Congresswoman Susie Lee, I introduced the bipartisan VA Zero Suicide Demonstration Project Act to build upon the VA's suicide prevention efforts.

The VA Zero Suicide Demonstration Project Act implements a Zero Suicide Initiative pilot program that has been proven to deliver results in other fields.

Veterans make up almost a quarter of all deaths by suicide, and I will always work in Congress to protect the men and women who served our country and make sure they are receiving the care they've EARNED in their time of need.

Expanding Overtime Pay for Border Patrol Supervisors

I recently introduced the Border Patrol Supervisors Retention Act. My bill would expand overtime pay for U.S. Border Patrol supervisors to improve retention, enhance operational effectiveness, and boost morale.

Many management-level agents in the Border Patrol work tirelessly to defend our homeland, yet they do not receive the same overtime pay that is authorized for other agents in the field.

Retaining talented Border Patrol supervisors is an important part of keeping our border secure, and I look forward to getting them the pay parity they deserve.
