Dear Friend,
I wanted to provide an update on the work I am doing in the House of Representatives to represent the great people of Maryland's First Congressional District and to advance commonsense, conservative legislation in Washington, D.C.
Delivering Reliable, Affordable Power for Maryland Families
This week, the House advanced the State Planning for Reliability and Affordability Act to strengthen energy affordability and reliability nationwide. The bill directs states to improve long-term planning for future electricity needs as demand grows, helping avoid higher costs and reliability problems. By prioritizing dependable energy planning, such as natural gas, coal, and nuclear, this legislation reduces the risk of outages during extreme weather and helps Maryland households count on stable, affordable electricity year-round.
Fixing Energy Supply Chains to Lower Costs for Maryland Families
I voted in strong support of the Electric Supply Chain Act to address energy policy failures under the Biden administration that directly affect Maryland families and small businesses. The Biden administration’s green energy agenda failed to secure domestic supply chains for critical electric grid equipment, increasing reliance on foreign sources and putting electricity reliability and affordability at risk. For Maryland communities, this means higher costs and greater vulnerability to power disruptions. This legislation directs the Department of Energy to identify supply chain weaknesses left unaddressed under the Biden administration and report them to Congress, so action can be taken to protect grid reliability and keep energy costs under control for Maryland households.
Streamlining Federal Permitting to Move Maryland Projects Forward
This week, the House passed the PERMIT Act, which cuts red tape and prevents infrastructure projects from getting stuck in years of federal delays nationwide, including in Maryland. Lengthy reviews and overlapping regulations have slowed work on roads, ports, energy infrastructure, and water systems across Maryland, driving up costs and delaying needed improvements. This bill streamlines permitting timelines and improves coordination between federal agencies so projects can move forward more efficiently while maintaining environmental protections.
