With direction from Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and Stephen Miller, ICE continues to terrorize Oregonians.

Last month, we heard that ICE was planning to build a detention facility in Newport, a small town on the Oregon coast. And just a few days ago, job postings were spotted indicating that ICE may try to open a detention center in the Portland area. For good reason, both communities showed up in force and objected.

Also, the Department of Homeland Security tried to move a Coast Guard helicopter to make room for their possible expansion in Newport. Along with other members of the delegation, I demanded answers from the Trump administration. I represent the North Coast, and I know that without a helicopter in Newport, Astoria would need to respond. Just recently, the helicopter was finally returned to Newport, addressing safety concerns and marking an important win for the community.

The helicopter is back because Oregonians, our Democratic delegation, and local elected officials stood strong and spoke up. We'll continue to fight against the expansion of ICE's violent activity everywhere.
