Hi John, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows here.

Mother Jones just published a major story on the Trump administration’s attempt to build a national voter purge machine – and Maine is at the center of the story.

Your Private Data Is Building Trump’s Voter Purge Machine
“The election deniers are now ascendant in the federal government,” says Bellows, who spent eight years as the executive director of the Maine ACLU before assuming her current post.

Here’s what’s happening:

The Trump Justice Department is trying to force states to turn over sensitive, personal voter data that would be used to build a centralized national database of every voter in America. That includes Social Security numbers, license data, party affiliation, and more.

Make no mistake: this is an orchestrated effort to undermine our democracy, intimidate election officials, and silence voters.

This isn’t about election integrity. It’s about building the infrastructure for mass voter purges, fueled by junk data, conspiracy theories, and political retaliation.

Your privacy, your rights, and your freedom to vote are not bargaining chips. They are the bedrock of our democracy – and that’s exactly why I refused to comply with this request.

But here’s the reality: standing up to these attacks takes a movement – people like you, raising your voices and showing that Maine will never back down.

That’s why I’m asking: before midnight tonight, will you contribute $20 between my campaign and DASS? If you believe in protecting free and fair elections from political interference, now is the time to donate.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Take care,

Shenna
