A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

Too many Rhode Islanders have been taken for a ride by scammers stealing their hard-earned money, leaving many devastated and destitute. Across the country, Americans are confronting an unprecedented surge in scams as technological and criminal tactics grow more sophisticated. In Rhode Island alone, seniors lost $6,309,411 to fraud in 2024.

As part of my work to make life more affordable, I introduced two bipartisan bills to end scams and help our neighbors keep more money in their pockets.

First, the Strengthening Task forces to Oppose Predatory (STOP) Scams Against Seniors Act to crack down on scams by freeing up federal funding to support Elder Justice Task Forces that bring together state and federal agencies to investigate and prosecute scams targeting older adults.

I also introduced the bipartisan National Strategy for Combating Scams Act in both the House and Senate to ensure the Federal Bureau of Investigation Investigation creates a National Strategy for Combating Scams and enhance federal coordination and effectiveness in fighting financial fraudsters.

Congressman Amo speaks at the Global Anti-Scam Alliance conference with Stop Scams Caucus Co-Chair Representative Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) about their bipartisan work protecting our neighbors from fraud.

As co-chair of the Stop Scams Caucus, I will continue working to ensure Congress addresses the rising scam threat in a coordinated and strategic manner. I look forward to helping develop a national strategy to fight scammers and keep Rhode Islanders money where it belongs — in their pockets.

I’ll keep doing whatever I can to stop scams and lower costs because you deserve better.

Sincerely,

Gabe Amo
Member of Congress

Congratulations to AARP Rhode Island’s 2025 Andrus Award for Community Service winner, Holly Snyder.

I learned from Holly about how Congress can better serve advocates like her.

Holly's volunteerism demonstrates how a single dedicated advocate can make meaningful change.

Spoke with Rhode Islanders at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket as we watched the draw and found out teams that may play in our region.

I am working in Congress to make sure we are ready to welcome the world next June!

Responding to the Trump Administration’s Caribbean Strikes and Standing Up for Our Health Care

Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo joins Chris Stirewalt on NewsNation's The Hill Sunday to discuss protecting Rhode Islanders' health care and the unconstitutional strikes in the Caribbean.

On The Hill Sunday with moderator Chris Stirewalt, I reiterated my calls for Trump’s Pentagon to release the video of the boat bombing in the Caribbean on September 2, 2025. If the Trump administration believes there is nothing wrong with the video, there should be no issue releasing it. A refusal to do so is damning.

I also spoke about the urgency of extending the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits. For 15 years, Republicans have not put forward a health care plan. Congress must act. I am calling on four Republicans to join all House Democrats in forcing a vote on lowering health care costs.

Hosting Federal Security Funding Forum with Nonprofits and Faith-Based Organizations

Image
Congressman Gabe Amo in conversation with Rhode Island-based nonprofits and faith-based organizations about the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

This week, I led a conversation about opportunities for faith-based and nonprofit organizations to apply for security funding through the federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).

Everyone should be able to gather, worship, and learn in safety. That’s why it’s so important that we make sure groups apply to the NSGP. And, why I am working across the aisle to increase funding for this critical program.

I will keep fighting to stop Trump from cutting this program and make sure resources are available to protect our faith-based and nonprofits so all Rhode Islanders and Americans can live free of the fear of violence. To apply or for more information, click here.

Fighting Back Against SNAP Cuts

Image
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Gabe Amo speaks on the House floor about Republican policies cutting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

President Trump's and Republicans' Big, Ugly Law cut $187 billion from the SNAP program, which feeds families, kids, and seniors across the country.

Putting food on the table is already expensive — and these cuts will make it exponentially harder.

Securing Wins for Rhode Island in Annual Defense Bill

This year’s National Defense Authorization Act missed the mark by including partisan provisions, though it included important wins for Rhode Island. Even though I opposed its passage, I am glad that my bills, the AUKUS (Australia, United Kingdom, United States) Improvement Act and the Promoting Diplomacy with Australia Act to strengthen our alliances and uplift Rhode Island manufacturing were included.

Additionally, I welcome the pay raise for troops, increased access to child care, and plans to improve facilities at Naval Station Newport. But we can and must do better to live up to our values and I look forward to improving the process of authorizing our defense and diplomatic enterprise, so it works for all Rhode Islanders in coming years.

Countering Trump's Policies in the Courts

The Trump administration's policies are being challenged and overturned in court. The American people are standing up against the administration, and the courts continue to deal setbacks to the administration.

Recent Courtroom Wins:

✅ PROTECTING PROGRAMS TO COMBAT HATE CRIMES — Alongside 90 federal lawmakers, I filed an amicus brief in the case of Ethical Society of Police v. Bondi, opposing the Trump administration’s attempt to eliminate the Department of Justice’s Community Relations Service that works to combat hate crimes, antisemitism, and religious violence.

JUDGE BLOCKS WARRANTLESS ARRESTS IN WASHINGTON, DC — A federal judge barred federal immigration officers in Washington, D.C. from arresting individuals without a formal judicial warrant unless they could show that suspects posed a flight risk.

JUDGE STOPS TRUMP POLICY CUTTING PLANNED PARENTOOD — A federal judge deemed unconstitutional a provision in Trump and Republicans' Big, Ugly Law that would have cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood locations in 22 states.
