** For many, December is a month for reflection and goal-setting for the new year. The Maine Climate Council has been celebrating recent successes, taking stock of progress, and outlining next steps for 2026.

In this month's newsletter, we are pleased to share the Council's newly released annual report for Maine Won't Wait, which details the progress on state climate action for the 2025 fiscal year. You'll also find details on the Council's latest meeting and exciting job announcements below.

** On Dec. 1, the Maine Climate Council released its 2025 Annual Report for Maine Won't Wait. The report highlights progress from July 2024 to June 2025, including:

** $99 million invested in Maine climate infrastructure and resilience in FY2025

** 20,346 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles on the road

** 22.5% of Maine's land conserved

** 243 communities enrolled in Community Resilience Partnership

** Maine Climate Council Meeting Recap

** Also on Dec. 1, the Maine Climate Council and its working groups met to discuss the Council's FY 2025 Annual Report and outline next steps for action in 2026.

The Council was joined by Governor Janet Mills, who spoke on the importance of state and local leadership in climate work. Two panels of climate leaders also shared insights, success stories, and their plans for tackling the challenges ahead in the new year.

** Join the State Resilience Office Team

** The State Resilience Office in MOCA is hiring a Flood Ready Maine Program Manager to develop and lead a new network of regional floodplain managers.

The Manager will work closely with the Maine Floodplain Management Program, the Community Resilience Partnership, and MOCA's programs to build capacity across Maine for mitigation of flood risks and climate hazards, helping regions and communities become more resilient.

MOCA is looking for an innovative individual who is passionate about flood resilience and eager to strengthen partnerships with Maine's regional councils and communities.

** VolunteerMaine's New Hub

** Volunteer Maine is launching a statewide hub for volunteer opportunities: ServeMaine.org will connect organizations with Mainers looking to give their time and talent.

As Volunteer Maine prepares for a statewide public launch, they're inviting volunteer-engaging organizations to create agency profiles now and add volunteer opportunities early to reach Mainers eager to make a difference.
