Instead of protecting our rivers, streams, and wetlands, the EPA’s proposal strips away safeguards from waterways across the country, ignores the health and economic costs to communities, and even invites polluters to request more loopholes. Early estimates warn this rule could result in the loss of up to 80% of wetlands nationwide, a critical part of our waters’ defenses against flooding, pollution, and drought.
If enacted, the Polluted Water Rule would lead to the destruction of wetlands, worsen water quality, and put the health of our communities — and the drinking water they depend on — at risk.
At the exact moment when we need stronger protections from flooding, toxic contamination, and extreme weather, Trump’s EPA is siding with polluters instead of public health.
We can’t let this giveaway to polluters get buried. The louder our opposition, the better chance we’ll have to make sure everyone knows that Trump – yet again – is putting billionaire CEOs ahead of all of us.
