High production costs, collapsing crop prices, and lost markets have pushed families and rural towns to the brink.

Farmers like Brady Holst used to count on buyers in China — now those markets are shut off and corn and soybeans are worth less than the cost to grow them. Holst explained to NPR, "Really the best thing farmers would like to see is just a place to sell our commodities at a price that we can make money at."

Farm bankruptcies are spiking. Communities are hurting. And what does the White House do? It flashes a $12 billion bailout and pretends everything’s fine.

Let’s call it what it is: a cover-up and a slap in the face to American taxpayers. That “bailout” is smoke and mirrors — a bandage on the damage the tariffs caused in the first place.
