MPAC issued a public statement outlining the deep flaws in Florida’s rationale and the dangerous precedent this creates for civil liberties. You can read the full statement here.
The heart of the issue is simple. Florida used ideological claims rather than evidence to label a long-standing American civil rights organization a security threat. Although the order targets CAIR specifically, the framework it establishes places other American Muslim institutions at risk. It creates conditions where selective monitoring, pressure on advocates, and restrictions on lawful work can grow.
MPAC is stepping up. In the coming weeks, we will engage policymakers in Washington, work with civil rights partners, brief the media, and continue to challenge the misuse of counterterrorism language that undermines our constitutional protections. We are also increasing our efforts to confront the rise in Islamophobia that this climate is feeding, especially toward Palestinians and those who work for Palestinian human rights.
This work is urgent, and it requires resources.
Your contribution today will strengthen our ability to protect civil liberties and serve as a principled voice for justice and human dignity.
