Today, Governor Pritzker signed assisted suicide into law in Illinois. This action is devastating to vulnerable citizens – those with disabilities, older people, women with anorexia, minority communities – and all those who may be coerced or pressured into ending their lives by using lethal drugs.
The coalition which valiantly fought to prevent this from occurring are champions of the highest order. Forsaking political differences they worked side by side to protect their constituencies from the impact of the law.
Truly some people will die needlessly from assisted suicide through erroneous medical predictions, family pressures, economic factors and bad judgment. We mourn the passage of this law. - The Patients' Rights Action Fund |
