On this day in 1848, a group of ambitious women who were motivated for change, gathered in Seneca Falls, NY to write the Declaration of Sentiments — a document that declared all men and women equal. The two-day convention laid the foundation for feminists to fight for the rights of women to receive an education, own property, and of course, to vote.


I would not be where I am today without the courage of those women who paved the way, and I want to use the platform that they helped build for me to continue to advocate for justice and equality for women.

 

Since this first women's convention, women (particularly women of color) are still fighting for equality on several fronts including reproductive healthcare, closing the wage gap, maternity leave, and so much more. And this is a fight I plan to carry on when I make it to Congress.
