Your support now strengthens our work for 2026.

Dear Friend,
Today was supposed to be the last day of the 2025 parliamentary session but we adjourned yesterday. Parliament will be in recess until January 26, 2026.
Yesterday's negotiations were tense.
Nothing unifies MP’s and political parties like the possibility of leaving a day early for Christmas. And I was in the way, insisting on standing on principle.
Here was my dilemma. The other parties – Liberals, Conservatives, Bloc, and NDP – had all agreed, by unanimous consent, to skip voting on legislation eliminating the carbon price, eliminating protection of personal and private information from federal political parties, reducing refugee rights and civil liberties to please Donald Trump, and deeming that these bills had all been voted on and passed. All to save time and get home early.
Believe me, I love the idea of finally getting a day off. My last one was October 12! Nevertheless, I told the government I could not agree. I would say "Nay" when asked if there was unanimous consent.
That is right. All it takes is one voice to stop the further bulldozing of our rights. Unanimous consent takes every MP. My team worried about what new punishments we would face, but heck, they have punished me again and again since I was elected in 2011. Denying me the right to speak, the right to ask questions in Question Period, and on it goes. I am not exactly a glutton for punishment, but I refuse to be bulldozed with the inducement of a day off or the threats of punishments to come.
Luckily, I have made so many friends in Parliament, even with people with whom I profoundly disagree, and I was able to explain that I could not let legislation pass without recording that Greens vote in opposition. We found a compromise. The bills, which clearly had the votes to pass if we were allowed the chance to vote, all breezed through, with the addition to the motion "noting that the Member for Saanich-Gulf Islands is opposed."
Canadian democracy – not at its finest – but clinging to principle.
Which is what Greens do!
Thank you for an amazing response so far to our big stretch target of a million dollars raised by December 31. I know we can do it!
Federal law limits how much any individual can donate to a political party. In 2025, that limit is $1,750. Only individual Canadians can fund political work.
If you are able to, may I ask you to consider donating your maximum before December 31 to power our 2026 preparedness? No amount is too small. If everyone receiving this email contributes just $100, we’ll reach our goal. It’s that simple. And if you’re able to give more, December is the moment it matters most.

Thank you.
You are the reason I do this work day after day, year after year. Although this year tested all of us, I am reminded of the extraordinary community that fuels this party.
So for this month, we are going to share a little slice of our work every Friday.
This Friday, I want to share the [press conference]([link removed]) I held on Wednesday, providing more details on the bills I have been fighting.
On behalf of our whole team: Deputy Leader Mike Morrice in Kitchener Centre, Deputy Leader Rainbow Eyes standing her ground as a rights holder on Indigenous land, as well as our whole team, staff, and volunteers, we are so deeply grateful for your support.
And to all our Green Party donors and members across Canada: Thank you for being part of this work, for believing in the Green Party, for showing up, and for sustaining this movement with your spirit and your generosity.
With love, hope, and gratitude,
Elizabeth E. May, O.C.
Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands
Leader, Green Party of Canada

P.S. Your year-end gift comes with significant tax benefits. For example, a $100 donation returns $75 back to you at tax time. A maximum donation of $1,750 returns $650 back. All official tax receipts are issued in February 2026. [Donate today!]([link removed])
