Straight from Axios, John: "President Trump's political team privately told big donors that the Supreme Court will soon issue rulings on voting rights and contribution limits that could tilt future elections their way."
Two main cases are making the MAGA movement feel like things are going to break their way ahead of the 2026 elections:
➜ In Louisiana v. Callais, the court is set to decide whether to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) and return to a time of racial gerrymandering. This would be the capstone of Chief Justice John Roberts career, as he's been working to neuter the VRA since he worked for Ronald Reagan.
➜ In National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) v. the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), the court is tackling a case that could eliminate a federal law capping how much big-money party committees can spend in direct coordination with favored candidates. This could be the most consequential campaign finance case since the Citizens United decision opened the floodgates of corporate spending in our elections.
To be clear, these cases boil down to a simple idea: do voters get to make the decisions, or can politicians choose their voters and pump unlimited cash into their campaign coffers?
