John,
Yesterday, Senate Republicans tried to jam through a healthcare amendment that would gut abortion coverage nationwide.
Their bill would block people on Affordable Care Act plans from buying any private insurance that includes abortion coverage.
That would pressure insurers to drop coverage altogether, making abortion harder to access in every state, red and blue states alike.
All but one Republican voted to move this bill forward. Instead of addressing rising healthcare premiums, they used this moment to attack abortion, gender-affirming care, and healthcare access for immigrant communities.
We’ve seen this before. During election seasons, GOP politicians frequently dodge abortion questions or claim to be “moderates” on this issue.
But let’s be clear: there’s nothing “moderate” about using vital healthcare as a cheap political bargaining chip.
Here’s the good news: Just days ago, a coalition of 20 attorneys general, led by New York AG Letitia James, called on Congress to reject this dangerous proposal, spotlighting how extreme it really is.
They’re right to sound the alarm. 63% of Americans support legal abortion in all or most cases. Republicans know this, which is why they keep trying to sneak restrictions through the back door.
Because the Senate failed to address soaring premiums, millions of working families will soon pay more for their healthcare. We deserve leaders who will defend our rights at every level and who actually listen to the will of the people.
That’s why Vote Pro-Choice works every day to elect champions who will protect reproductive freedom, especially in the face of nefarious attacks.
If you’re able, chip in $5 or $10 today to help us fight back in battleground districts across the country.
Thank you for standing with us in this fight,
In solidarity,
