A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
As we come up to Christmas, I want to say a big thank you to everyone across Nottingham who helps keep our city clean, safe and welcoming. Our recent Love Your City Centre Day of Action was a great example of teams and partners working together to make a real difference.
We’re also sharing updates on festive waste and recycling collections, which will run earlier than usual, so please remember to check your revised dates below.
I'm pleased to see Nottingham recognised as one of the top-performing authorities for walking and cycling, showing our continued commitment to a greener, more accessible city.
I’ve also really enjoyed getting out into the community ahead of Christmas, including attending my local Christmas lights switch-on and fair. A huge thank you to the volunteers and organisers who helped make it such a magical event - and to Santa too!
Finally, I’d like to wish a very Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating, and warm festive wishes to everyone across Nottingham.

This Sunday (14 December) marks the beginning of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. To everyone in our city observing this special time, we send our warmest wishes for eight days filled with peace, joy, and light.
Hanukkah is a celebration of hope, resilience and community, values that sit at the heart of Nottingham. Whether you’re lighting the menorah, enjoying time with loved ones, or taking part in community events, we hope this season brings brightness and connection.
🕯️ Chag Sameach to all who celebrate. May your homes and hearts be filled with light.
The final Love Your City Centre Day of Action took place last week, bringing together council teams and partners for a coordinated effort to improve cleanliness, safety and support in the city centre. Teams carried out a wide range of activity including street cleaning, graffiti removal, business engagement, welfare checks and targeted enforcement, helping create a more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works and visits Nottingham. This marks the last in the current series of Days of Action, reinforcing our continued commitment to maintaining a safe, vibrant and well-cared-for city centre.
As we prepare to celebrate the holidays, please remember that waste and recycling collection days will change over Christmas and New Year. Many collections will take place earlier than usual, so check your updated dates and put your bin out by 7am on the correct day:

Nottingham has been chosen as one of just eight pilot areas in England to develop a new Young Futures Hub.
Announced this week as part of the National Youth Strategy, the Hub will bring together youth workers and specialist professionals to offer joined-up support for young people - including wellbeing, education and employment pathways, and early help where needed.
We’re already engaging young people through surveys and workshops to help shape what the Hub should look like. We’ll continue working with Government, partners and the voluntary sector as plans develop.

We’re contacting affected voters over the next 2 weeks by email, letter, or phone. This change in legislation means that around 90% of postal voters in Nottingham will need to reapply.
If you’re notified to reapply, please do so as soon as possible.

Trespassing at the former Debenhams building on Long Row is now a criminal offence after Nottingham City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team, working closely with Nottinghamshire Police, secured a Closure Order in response to repeated break-ins and dangerous access to the roof. The order, granted for an initial three months, aims to stop ongoing anti-social behaviour and protect public safety. This is a strong example of how partnership working is helping keep our city centre safe. |

From this Saturday (13 December), Sherwood residents will be able to access a new mobile library service while work continues on the permanent library. Porchester Road walking and cycling improvements completed ahead of schedule
|
Nottingham City Council were awarded £2.7m from Active Travel England and the East Midlands Combined County Authority to complete this two-phase project.
This is an important addition to the council’s strategic cycling network, linking to the improvements on Carlton Road and following the completion of last year’s Active Travel Fund project on St Ann’s Well Road.
