Welcome to the 4th edition of the MenEngage Africa (MEA) newsletter! As the year draws to a close, we reflect on a quarter filled with critical work dedicated to advancing gender equality, promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and fostering safer communities across the continent.

In this edition, we shine a light on the impactful field efforts of our networks, including a successful 16 Days of Activism by MenEngage DRC, MenEngage eSwatini, and MenEngage Cameroon. We also share highlights from a pivotal regional convening in Nairobi ahead of Women Deliver 2026, where African advocates and youth leaders gathered to demand action on SRHR. Finally, we take you inside the SRHR4All project learning meeting in Addis Ababa, where partners convened to strengthen community-level advocacy.

MENENGAGE NEWS & VIEWS

MenEngage DRC campaign against online gender-based violence

From 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, the network mobilised youth, men and key community actors across several provinces to promote safer digital environments for women and girls.

“MenEngage DRC is committed to mobilising men, boys and broader communities to ensure that digital transformation does not expose women and girls to new forms of harm,” said MenEngage DRC Coordinator, Shaloom Peace Bwigule.

Mgcabhe construction marks 16 days of activism with a focus on awareness and safety

As part of the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the MenEngage eSwatini network carried out a workplace sensitisation campaign across three Mgcabho Construction sites in two regions of Eswatini. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the understanding of GBV, promote safer working environments, and expand access to HIV prevention information among employees. Over the course of the campaign, 200 workers participated in the sessions.

MenEngage Africa at regional convening towards Women Deliver 2026

From November the 24th to the 26th, youth advocates, feminist leaders, policymakers, and grassroots movements lit up Nairobi, Kenya, united by a common purpose: to demand action on sexual and reproductive health and rights across Africa. The convening was hosted by Sonke Gender Justice and partners, a deliberate act of solidarity in the face of shrinking civic space, funding crises, and growing anti-rights narratives.

Empowering communities to end digital violence against women and girls, Cameroon

“Activities marking the 16 days of activism celebration saw progress made towards promoting MenEngage strategic actions of gender equality and women's rights and a call to action for continued efforts to end digital violence. The 16 Days of Activism campaign in Zhoa and Benakuma was a huge success, with the community coming together to raise awareness and promote a culture of respect and safety online,” said Honorine Tebi, MEA Cameroon member

SRHR4All partners gather in Ethiopia for a learning meeting

Sonke Gender Justice and MenEngage Africa held the SRHR4All project learning meeting from the 20th until the 22nd of October 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This meeting was the first of its kind following the capacity trainings of MenEngage Africa country networks by Sonke Gender Justice, to share knowledge and carry out effective advocacy at the community level. The meeting brought together implementing partners and project beneficiaries from across the three countries and Sonke Gender Justice technical advisors on the programme.

Sonke Supporting partners: RHU's voice at ICFP 2025

This document highlights Reproductive Health Uganda's (RHU) engagement at the conference based on support from Sonke Gender Justice as a strategic partner within the Power To Youth Program (PTY). ICFP provided RHU with an opportunity to learn from other advocates while sharing and showcasing Uganda's SRHR impact and innovation.

Community realities while implementing projects like the Power To Youth and SRHR4ALL programmes in different countries across Africa informed the design of the GTA manual by programme specialists. This document is designed for community workers and advocates who are striving to create lasting impact.
