Hi John,
I recently came across an article from my friend George Smith, and I wanted to share some of my reflections on it with you all.
George wrote about how dismayed he was by the negative campaigning and personal attacks that have become so common in politics these days, and how candidates don’t seem interested in getting to know their constituents personally anymore.
I was struck by his message, mostly because it resonated with some of my own personal feelings about campaigning and politics these days. We need to spend more time working together to find solutions, and less time getting caught up in partisan fights.
So John, here’s my promise to you -- I’ll do my best to stay above the fray of partisan bickering, personal attacks, and negative campaigning that will inevitably be coming our way here in the Second District.
Instead, as I’ve always done, I’ll stick to the issues that matter most to Mainers -- not the petty political games that get us nowhere.
But we’re up against some deeply partisan dark money groups this year who are attempting to replace me with more of the same old broken politics. That’s why I’m coming to you now.
I’d be so grateful if you could chip in whatever you’re able to my campaign today. It’s going to take all of us working together to win this race in November, so anything you can chip in would go a long way.

I don’t take your support, or that of any of my constituents and grassroots supporters, for granted.
I know it’s going to take honesty, accountability, and transparency from me and my team to earn the support I’ll need to win in November.
So, over the next few months, as the campaign ramps up and the attack ads start coming, I’ll remember my promise to you.
If you’re able to help me and my team out before then, I’d be so grateful. We’re in for a tough fight, but I know that with supporters like you, we’ll get the job done.
