Dear John,
Please join us in welcoming a new member of our team at the NhRP, Gabby Mora! Gabby has stepped into the role of Development Manager and brings years of experience in philanthropy and animal advocacy to the position. Her journey to the NhRP and to the animal rights cause began in 2014 when she adopted her dog, Arlo.
Arlo had been shot, abandoned, and left wounded for days before he was rescued. His front leg had to be amputated. The moment Gabby met him, she felt a connection so profound it changed the course of her life.
Two weeks later, after she adopted Arlo, she visited what she believed to be a sea turtle sanctuary while traveling. There, she met a turtle who’d also lost a front limb from having been caught in a fishing net. She could see Arlo’s story reflected in that turtle, and she was forced to ask herself a hard question: Why do we justify the suffering of some animals while mourning it in others?
That moment became the catalyst for the many changes that came next—going vegan, switching careers, and committing herself to fight for all nonhuman animals with the same urgency she felt for Arlo.
Gabby believes deeply that a compassionate world is built by people who choose to stand up for those without power, regardless of species, and has dedicated her career to building that more compassionate future. She joined the NhRP because she knows that without legal rights, animals remain vulnerable to the arbitrary decisions and outdated views that shape how they’re treated.
“If we want real protection for animals,” she shared, “we need courts to recognize them as legal persons. That’s what the NhRP is working to achieve—and I want to help make that future possible.”
We’re grateful to have Gabby’s clarity, courage, and lived commitment as we continue pressing for transformative change for nonhuman animals in our legal system and beyond.
As our organization grows, so does our capacity to challenge speciesism in the courts, educate the public, and fight for a world where animals are respected and protected—not exploited.
Please join us in welcoming Gabby to the NhRP! And if you’re able, please consider making a donation to our end-of-year campaign to help us continue to grow our impact for nonhuman rights.
